Along with USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service and Mathematica Policy Research, Insight is pleased to share the Evaluation of the Direct Certification with Medicaid for Free and Reduced-Price Meals Demonstrations, Year 2 report. This report examines the impact of using Medicaid data to directly certify students for free and reduced-price school meals in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs in School Year 2017–2018. The study found the demonstration resulted in a small increase in the number and percentage of students certified for free and reduced-price meals and reduced burden on families and schools by reducing the need to complete paper applications.
