Insight Report on Sources of Newly Hired Teachers Released in October

October 25, 2016 by Daven Ralston

On October 12, 2016, the National Center for Education Statistics released Sources of Newly Hired Teachers in the United States: Results from the Schools and Staffing Survey, 1987–88 to 2011–12, a new statistical analysis report written by Insight Policy Research. In 2011–12, newly hired teachers accounted for 6 percent of all public school teachers and 11 percent of all private school teachers, according to this report. These percentages fell from 2007–08, when 10 percent of public school teachers and 16 percent of private school teachers were newly hired. The study uses data spanning 25 years from four administrations of the Schools and Staffing Survey, a sample survey of U.S. elementary and secondary schools. Insight staff Catharine Warner-Griffin and Chrystine Tadler analyzed the data and wrote the report.
