Facilitators and Barriers to Reporting Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault in the Military

October 16, 2020

This poster, developed by Insight’s Rachel Gaddes and Rachel Holzwart, highlights the facilitators and barriers to reporting sexual harassment and sexual assault in the military. Under a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense, Insight coded and analyzed data captured in 71 focus groups at 18 installations to describe the facilitators and barriers to reporting. Participants reported on circumstances that lead to sexual harassment and sexual assault, discussed the effects of military culture on gender relations, talked about their perceptions of trainings and military values that encourage reporting, and shared cultural barriers to reporting.
