Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS)

The Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) delivers independent advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Defense on matters and policies related to the recruitment, retention, treatment, employment, integration, and well-being of women in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Insight authored this report for the Committee celebrating its restoration in 2022 after the Department of Defense’s Zero-Based Review process suspended operations in 2021. The report provides a review of the history of women in the military since 1951 (DACOWITS’ inception), progress towards the 2021 study topics, the Committee’s restoration in 2022, and a look ahead at the Committee’s 2023 study topics.
